Flight Deal: Germany to Australia/New Zealand for under €1600

Air China has launched a great set of return flight deals from German airports to Asia and beyond at some excellent prices right through to Summer 2018. The headline fares are the €1600 flights to New Zealand. You can make it to Australia for around €1578.

These are some great prices heading eastwards. You’ll need to be quick through. They are only available today 11 November and tomorrow 12 November. Although not as cheap as some of the recent Qatar prices from Oslo and Stockholm, the one big difference here is that July and August 2018 are wide open for availability.

Head over to the website link here in order to get the best deals. (Hat tip to FlyerTalk for deal.)

Good luck and happy travels!

Flight Deals: Amazing Qatar Airways Business Class flights to Asia, Australia, and New Zealand!

Qatar Airways is at it again! To celebrate 20 years of flying they’ve announced some amazing round-trip flight prices from Europe to Asia, Australia, and New Zealand. There are good deals in economy, but I’m going to focus mostly on business class here.

Screen Shot 2017-11-02 at 15.38.34

So, what do you need to know? First of all, you need to book by 10 November. Second, these offers don’t work for one person: for business class, you’ll only get the best fares if you are travelling in groups of two. (Groups of three for economy.) Third, availability runs from 1 November 2017 until 31 October 2018 and is wide open during this whole period apart from two blackout periods: 15 December 2017 to 10 January 2018 and 7 June 2018 to 10 September 2018. So if you were planning to take advantage of this for your Christmas or Summer holidays, then you’re out of luck.

Other than that, there are some excellent deals around:

FRA (Frankfurt) to DPS (Denpasar, Bali) for €1025
CPH (Copenhagen) to HKG (Hong Kong) for €940
SOF (Sofia) to SIN (Singapore) for £827
TXL (Berlin) to JNB (Johannesburg) for €1320

These are great prices but the real action is for flights from Stockholm (ARN). There are some outstanding prices from here, especially to Australia and New Zealand:

ARN (Stockholm) to SYD (Sydney) for £1331
ARN (Stockholm) to AKL (Auckland) for £1351

There are some other great deals to other Asian locations as well from Stockholm, which appears to be the winner in terms of starting locations in this sale. Do remember that you’ll need to book at least two seats (and thereafter in multiples of two) to avail of these great deals.

Have fun and Bon Voyage!

Double Avios on British Airways Flights

BA has relaunched its quite generous double Avios promotion for flights booked and taken between now and 31 December 2017. You need to register in advance for this promotion and you can do so from this link.

britishairways1111

The promotion works across all cabin classes on every BA flight including those flights operated by codeshare partners American Airlines, Iberia, and Finnair, that carry BA flight numbers. OpenSkies flights between Paris and New York are included as well.

The promotion is open to all BA travellers, although if your account is registered in the US, Canada, Mexico, or South Africa you are out of luck.

Another little detail to watch out for here… it’s not ALL flights booked and flown between now and the end of year: it’s actually just the first four return flights (or first eight one-way flights) flown that count. This may or may not be a big deal for you… but if you registered, booked, and flew four short haul return flights in November and then booked and flew four long haul flights in December, you would miss out on a bunch of double Avios! If you find yourself caught out by something like this, you MIGHT want to consider removing your BA Executive Club number from some of the short haul bookings!

Flight Deal: Qatar Airways Global Sale

Qatar announced one of its global sales earlier today, but to be honest this one is a little bit underwhelming and far from as attractive as some of the sub-£1000 or sub-€1000 sale fares we’ve been used to from Europe to the Far East. It’s on now and is valid for bookings from today (12 September 2017) until 19 September 2017, so there’s no time to lose if you see something that you like.

Despite being a tad underwhelming, there are some *reasonable* fares out there. There is also good availability at the moment, from September right through to the end of May next year, although there is a modest blackout period from 15 December 2017 until 10 January 2018.

Right so what fares might catch your eye? Well, OSL to BKK can be had for £1290. Nothing stellar but a reasonable fare.

Another fare that’s worth checking is out is SOF to PVG (Shanghai) at £1162. The availability is a little lore spotty here, but a quick look on Google Flights shows plenty of dates within the fare window above when you can grab this fare. Do note that the SOF to DOH segment on this flight is on an A320 so it’s not the lie flat seat you might expect, at least for this leg. If your just hunting for miles and points though, then it’s still a good deal.

These were the standout fares for me… I didn’t spot anything more attractive nor any particularly good deals from major main European airports such as FRA or AMS.

I wouldn’t be too down beta though: there’s sure to be a better QR sale around in a few more weeks!

Flight Deal: London Gatwick to Bangkok, Business Class for £1221 return

Turkish Airlines is offering some good business class return fares from London to Bangkok at the moment. For £1221 return you’ll get a business class flight from London Gatwick via Istanbul to Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi airport. This is pretty good price for flights originating in the UK: it’s common to find prices like this to BKK from European airports, but these obviously have the cost of positioning flights from the UK and you might even need to build in the price of a hotel for a night depending on timings.

I could easily find lots of availability for March 2018, as shown in the screen grab below.

However, the availability is much broader than this. There is good availability from the beginning of November 2017 until early December. The Christmas period is blocked out, but there is good availability again from mid-January 2018 onwards right though to the end of March, although after that the handy matrix view tool on the Turkish website doesn’t offer any insights on booking further out, see below…

The minimum stay appears to be only about four nights and there doesn’t appear to be a Saturday night requirement either, but why you might want to stay for a shorter period of time is beyond me given the nature of the distance and jet lag, and of course how enjoyable a stay in Bangkok could be!

Anyhow, yes, you can find cheaper fares than this from Europe to Bangkok, but this is pretty good direct from London with lots of options on the departure timings. The flights from London to Istanbul are on Turkish Airline’s B737 aircraft and then onwards on the B777. Both offer a good quality hard and soft product, with lie flat beds on the longer Istanbul to Bangkok sectors.

Happy travels!

Flight Deal: Venice to Bangkok in Business Class on Qatar Airways for €1328/£1170

qatar-sale-4

There’s (yet) another excellent deal out of Venice to Bangkok on Qatar Airways in Business Class. A mere €1328 for the roundtrip ticket. There’s lots of availability for the next few months, and of course both the hard and soft product on Qatar are excellent. You can even go tomorrow and you don’t even need to stay for a full week!

There are several routing options to choose from, and I’ve included a screen grab below.

Screen Shot 2017-06-28 at 15.35.15

You want to choose the Business Promo Fare. As you can see, it’s not available every day. For example, you can’t select it on Saturday 1 July. However, even tomorrow, there are lots of options for the cheaper fare of €667.42 (outbound only). There are at least five options available, all with different departure times from DOH to BKK. Choose carefully. There are several different aircraft types available on this routing, all showing at the same discounted price. For me, the obvious choice would be to take the Airbus A380 aircraft option from DOH with the onboard bar area, although you could take a 777 or a 787 if the timings suited you better.

Discounted fares from VCE have been around for a while and they tend to come and go, so book soon if this is of interest. You might also be able to get an extra 5% or 10% off if you enter the code ‘ONTHEGO’ into the Promo Code field if you are booking from the mobile app.

Flight Deal: Stockholm to Auckland in Qatar Business Class £1826/€2076

qatar-sale-4

Qatar Airways is generally regarded as one of the best airlines around, especially in Business Class and First Class. The very frequent sales that they offer, mostly Eastbound from Europe, offer some of the best value luxury flight deals around.

While there is no global QR sale on at the moment, there is a very reasonable Business Promo fare available from Stockholm to Auckland in Business Class. It weighs in at around SEK20,281: that’s approximately £1826/€2076, which while not amazingly cheap is darn good price to get to Auckland in Business Class from Northern Europe.

There is good availability for the next few months. You can find sample routings and fares here.

Those sample flights are operated on the relatively new Boeing 787 aircraft from Stockholm to Doha. The cabin interior is wonderful on the 787, one of the best in the industry.qatar-airways-boeing-787-dreamliner-business-class-review-19

And on the Doha to Auckland sector it’ll be the Boeing 777. The interiors here are no so up-to-date, but they are more than satisfactory for this, the world’s current longest flight. It’s a huge 16 hours from Doha to Auckland (non-stop!) and a whopping 17 hours 40 mins on the way back thanks to those pesky jet-streams!

All-in-all, a reasonable value flight and plenty of time to enjoy the on-board service!

The British Airways World Sale is Now On

britishairways1111

British Airways launched its summer sale yesterday. You can read all about it here. but there is not a lot to get really excited about.

From a luxury flight perspective, there aren’t so many good deals. Here are a few that I noticed that seem OK, especially since they depart from the UK (London), but they are not really stand out fares:

Tampa for £1495
Philadelphia for £1744
New York for £1813
Miami for £1870

There are some slightly better prices to the Caribbean. Kingston for £1195 isn’t too bad and there is good availability right through to May 2018. Punta Cana at £1196 isn’t too shabby either. Heading further east is quite disappointing: Bangkok for £1859 and a remarkable £3256 for Kuala Lumpur is quite the poorest value I’ve seen in a BA sale for some time.

If you want to include a hotel and select a Club World Holiday then there is some slightly better value to be had. You can book the 4-star Occidental Punta Cana hotel on an All-inclusive basis for seven nights with Club World business class flights from London for £1399 per person (based on at least two people sharing). That’s just an additional £203 per person. You would probably spend that on food alone. The other benefit of booking a Club World holiday is that you don’t need to pay the full amount when you make the booking, just a deposit. Apart from that, there are’t so many great holiday deals around, but if you find any gems do let me know!

You can see all of the Luxury flight and holiday offers here. Bookings must be completed by 11 July 2017 and for the most part is for travel up to around June 2018.

Flight Deal: Germany to Malé in Air France Business Class for €1696

airfrance-business_04.jpegThe Air France BEST Business Class seat

Air France is launching a new service (twice per week) from 1 November 2017 from Paris CDG to Malé, the capital of the Maldives on its Boeing 777-200 aircraft. This is not news per se: it was announced back in February by Air France. You can see the February announcement here.

But what is interesting, is that some good value fares for this routing have appeared, although you would have to start your journey in Germany. I priced up a flight for January 2018 for €1696 departing from MUC with relatively short layovers in CDG. See here on Google Flights for the routing. There’s quite a bit of availability over the coming months.

This is probably not the best price you will ever see from mainland Europe to the Maldives, but the AF business class seat and service is one of the best around and that reasonable value.

Flight Deal: Dublin to New York in Business Class £1108

Business Class Deals to New York

There are some good business class deals from Dublin to New York JFK at the moment. The cheapest is available at £1108 (€1266)  on Delta.

This is a direct flight and there is plenty of availability for the next few weeks and for some months after that. A quick search on Google Flights will show you the best deals.

If you would rather fly on a One World carrier, they are almost matching these fares.

The AA direct flight from DUB to JFK, coming back via LHR, comes in at £1216 ($1556), booking on AA.com, sample routing and dates below.

However, if you book on BA.com and prefer to route via LHR you can pick up some BA sectors and mix and match with AA across a variety of options. The prices for these flights come in at £1144 (€1309); again, sample routings and prices below. I’ve included the direct DUB-JFK outbound, but there are lots of options around the same price point.

These aren’t the best ever prices, but they’re not bad given the dates. Cheap positioning flights from the UK might make these especially attractive too.
